Lewis Mizrahi (R), who was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1988, has dedicated his career to ensuring the safety and protection of New York citizens. This year, Mizrahi is running as your Republican Party candidate in the general election for New York’s 8th Congressional District against Democratic incumbent Hakeem Jeffries.
Growing up in Brooklyn, Mizrahi dedicated his studies towards public service, attending the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where he earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in Criminal Justice and Corrections, followed by a Master of Public Administration in Operations Management and Supervision.
During this time, he served as a teaching assistant and a research assistant specifically focusing on research into NYPD corruption. After graduating, Mizrahi continued to dedicate himself to public service, serving as a criminal justice analyst for over 10 years and, recently, becoming a firefighter. As a result of these occupations, Mizrahi has firsthand experience with the public safety issues plaguing District 8. From an underlying desire to protect his community, Mizrahi is now channeling his unique experience into his campaign to represent and defend his home borough in Congress.
Mizrahi plans to significantly cut taxes with the goal of helping everyday Americans, especially those who are low-income. His proposed plan involves eliminating state income taxes for single filers earning
$50,000 or less and joint filers earning equal to or less than $100,000 annually. This will be made possible by cutting state funding for migrants and Medicaid. He also firmly stands against increasing property taxes, believing that doing so will hurt Americans who may already be struggling.
In regards to his stance on healthcare, Mizrahi believes that current Medicaid prices are far too high. He believes the money is wasted and mismanaged. To combat this, he plans to audit and examine every dollar, cut the waste, remove fraud, and provide better services at a lower cost to taxpayers.
Moreover, Mizrahi’s campaign vows to address the homelessness epidemic by revitalizing homeless shelters. Instead of homeless shelters’ purpose merely being to contain unhoused citizens, his goal is to reform these places into centers that foster citizens, educating them on necessary skillsets to advance their careers and battle substance addictions and/or mental health issues that are factors toward long-term homelessness. The effort to improve the quality of homeless shelters is an integral part of Mizrahi’s campaign, as identifying the root causes of homelessness and dealing with them in a welcoming setting will ultimately improve the average citizen’s quality of life and clean up our city streets.
Mizrahi endorses ICE in New York, and believes that ICE’s work is needed to dispose of illegal immigrants who reap the benefits of New York City being a sanctuary city. While supporting ICE’s work, it is also Mizrahi’s belief to keep ICE out of sanctioned places (e.g., schools, churches, etc.) and protect long-term immigrants with established families/lives in the state. These concepts are crucial to his campaign as Mizrahi ties the influx of immigrants to the high-rise of crime rates. One of Mizrahi’s campaign objectives is to make New York streets safe and crime-free.
Mizrahi knows the value and importance of education, and that is why he aims to bring back curricula
focused on fundamentals such as math, reading, and science. Additionally, he strongly believes in the Gifted and Talented (G&T) program and specialized high schools, advocating for them to be colorblind and strictly merit-based. Not only does he support the G&T programs, but also an expansion of vocational education to give students more pathways into technical and career-oriented fields.
Mizrahi is a strong advocate of the Second Amendment. He believes that the restriction of legal firearms will cause people to become more paranoid about their safety because the restriction prevents only law-abiding citizens from holding guns, not criminals. However, he still supports some regulation including background checks on people who were violent in the past/have a criminal record.
