US HoR District 17

Cait Conley is a Democratic candidate for New York’s 17th Congressional District. Growing up in the Hudson Valley as a fourth-generation resident, she is the daughter of a postal worker and a construction worker. When 9/11 occurred, Conley was only a junior at Pine Bush High School in Orange County. The next day, she began her application to the United States Military Academy at West Point. After she graduated from West Point, she earned her master’s degrees from both MIT and the Harvard Kennedy School. Conley won a five-way Democratic primary in June 2026 and also became her party’s nominee. Now, in November, she will face Republican Mike Lawler in the general election.

Conley served 16 years as an active Army officer. She was deployed six times to combat zones in Iraq and Afghanistan. She earned three Bronze Stars and became one of the first women officers to first-hand fight as part of a Special Operations unit.

After leaving the Army, Conley worked as Director for Counterterrorism on the National Security Council in the White House. She has led policies that counteract Middle Eastern and domestic threats.

She also served as Senior Advisor to the Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), where she helped advance the organization’s mission of supporting state and local election offices nationwide.

In her campaign, Conley focuses on fighting government corruption and making everyday living more affordable for the working class. She supports such ideals through banning stock trading by members of Congress, setting term limits, and fixing the United States’s ineffective immigration system. Endorsed by VoteVets, EMILY’s List, the Working Families Party, and the CWA, Conley’s campaign has also been added to the DCCC’s “Red to Blue” list.

If the Army taught Conley anything to live by, it’s to “run to the sound of the guns.” In other words, when something is broken, leaders should run towards and address it themselves rather than waiting for others to fix it. Ultimately, she argues that the latest generation of Americans deserves an economy where hard work rewards a good life.
