Thomas Dinapoli, who is running to be your next democratic NYC Comptroller, who was born on February 10, 1954, was also your comptroller since 2006. He is known for his great financial decisions and his ability to make New York better every single year. He plans to keep making great financial decisions and helping New York City thrive financially.

Being in office for more than 20 years, he managed and protected New York’s public retirement system, growing it to a massive $291.4 billion and earning it a rank as one of the most stable and safest funds in the country. His aggressive government audits and investigations successfully clawed back over $85 million in stolen or misused public funds. He expresses his work and decision making by helping grow our money and also protect it. He created a dedicated investigation team that has led to over 300 arrests of corrupt politicians and individuals who stole tax dollars. He successfully took back over $85 million in stolen and misused public funds.

He grew up in a middle class, union-worker household on Long Island, New York, where he learned from his parents the value of hard work. After he graduated from Mineola Public High school, He went to Hofstra University and graduated magna cum laude in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in history. In 1972, he was the youngest person in New York State history elected to public office at only the age of 18. While working a full-time job for 10 years in the phone industry, he took night classes at The New School University to earn his master's degree in Management and Urban Professions. Aside from helping with tax dollars and helping grow our money, he is also looking to protect the environment for New Yorkers by shifting hundreds of millions of dollars out of traditional fossil fuel companies and into solar and wind energy funds instead. He has made it a top priority to help grow our money and help protect the environment every single day and he does not stop until it happens.

Joseph Hernandez (R), born in Camagüey, Cuba, is the Republican candidate for New York State Comptroller. After fleeing communist rule at the age of seven and travelling to the United States as a refugee, Hernandez  has made use of every opportunity to further his education and gain necessary industry experience. 

As a candidate, he is focused on fighting fraud and government waste, protecting taxpayers, strengthening the state’s pension fund, and encouraging economic growth. Hernandez earned a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from the University of Florida. He went on to earn the following master’s degrees at the University of Florida, Yale University, and the University of Oxford: a Master of Science in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, a Master of Business Administration in Finance, a Master of Science in Chronic Disease Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and a Master’s in Global Healthcare Leadership.

Hernandez has also founded and invested in dozens of companies and taken them public on the NASDAQ and New York Stock Exchange. Hernandez is a scientist, healthcare executive, entrepreneur, and investor who believes the comptroller should serve as a “real watchdog, not a lapdog” by serving  in  the best interest of New Yorkers, no matter what the officials decree. New York needs a fresh face to run its finances, and Hernandez’s  experience makes one thing clear: he is what New York needs.  

As an immigrant, Hernandez values honest work, and he does not tolerate hard-earned money being taken out of the hands of taxpayers. To combat fraud and abuse in New York, he plans to implement a Fraud Strike Task Force focused on identifying fraud faster and recovering taxpayer money when possible. He believes in stronger financial oversight and strengthening the state’s pension fund, so future retirees and workers can feel secure in their retirement and prevent money and resources from being wasted. 

Hernandez proposes a $10 Billion Empire Opportunity Fund to invest in new and upcoming technology, seeking to invest in the future of New Yorkers. Once he is voted into office,  Hernandez will work to provide entrepreneurship and financial opportunities for all New Yorkers. .
