Zohran Mamdani, born on October 18, 1991, in Kampala, Uganda, has built his career on advocating for those who can’t speak out. Mamdani is running as your Democratic Mayoral candidate, winning the 2025 Democratic primary race. At the age of five, his family moved to Cape Town, South Africa, and two years later, at seven years old, they immigrated to New York City. Growing up in Queens, Mamdani attended Bronx Science High School and went to college at Bowdoin College in Maine. After graduating, Mamdani returned home and worked as a foreclosure prevention counselor, helping Queens residents avoid being evicted. This firsthand experience with the housing crisis inspired him to run for public office. Mamdani started his political career working on local politics through the Democratic campaigns in Queens and Brooklyn. Mamdani is also currently a New York State Assembly member representing the 36th district in Queens.
As Mayor, Mamdani strives to work towards improving the quality of life for all New Yorkers. His campaign wants to take unhoused citizens off the street, prioritize public safety, reduce taxes to strengthen the working class, expand access to healthcare and education for children, and support maternal services during pregnancy with special focus on postpartum care. His vision includes a more well connected community with ethical practices to foster a better economy. Within the next 10 years, he wants to construct 200,000 new units. These developments will be approved at dramatically faster rates while also being prioritized. His vision for equality goes beyond economic differences; he wants equal opportunities for all children. Mamdani will ensure that all public schools, regardless of location and status, are fully funded. In addition, he plans to make healthcare more accessible. He emphasizes maternal care and postpartum support as an essential investment in the well being of the future, stating he wants to “foster early childhood development.
Mamdani’s campaign also focuses on improving New York's daily life by making city transit more reliable and free. Additionally, Mamdani wants to raise the minimum wage to $30 by 2030, arguing that “When working people have more money in their pocket, the whole economy thrives.”
Mamdani has a heavy emphasis on public safety and is determined to create a Department of Community Safety, where the city will invest in a citywide mental health program. This includes deploying outreach workers in 100 subway stations and providing medical services in more vulnerable communities, and expanding evidence-based gun violence prevention programs.
Finally, Mamdani vows to protect our immigrant New Yorkers by strengthening our sanctuary city policies. He wants to ensure that the rights and safety of all residents remain a priority. Zohran Mamdani’s vision for New York stems from the belief that opportunity should be accessible to all in order for our community to grow. So remember, Take Note, Mamdani for Your Vote!

Andrew Cuomo, born and raised in Queens, New York, is running to be New York City’s next Mayor. He is the son of Mario Cuomo, who served as New York’s 52nd governor. This allowed Cuomo the opportunity to be actively involved in New York City’s political scene before becoming governor himself for 11 years (2010-2021). Although a lifelong Democrat, he is running as an Independent this election, bringing his experience and vision directly to all voters across the city. Cuomo earned his bachelor’s degree from Fordham University in the Bronx in 1979 and his law degree from Albany Law School in 1982. Before entering office, he founded one of the nation's largest non-profit organizations focused on the homeless, called Housing Enterprise for the Less Privileged (HELP).
Cuomo has spent many years working in the government. He served as New York’s U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) under President Bill Clinton and as Attorney General of New York in 2006. However, he is most known for his role as New York’s 56th Governor. During his time in office, he focused on many influential projects such as the expansion of the Second Avenue Subway, the renovations of the LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy airports, the passing of strong gun control laws, and keeping unemployment rates low.
Although Cuomo has been a lifelong Democrat, he is running for mayor this election as an Independent, bringing his experience and vision directly to all voters across the city.
As a mayoral candidate, Cuomo plans to expand affordable housing through the construction of housing units on empty land (subsequently opening up jobs for the unemployed), strengthen public safety by increasing police patrols in high-crime communities, improve public transportation through increased NYPD and MTA presence in subways, and protect healthcare access by increasing the availability of mental health resources. He aims to make New York City safer, more affordable, and more supportive for working families.
